Woodland Gel

all I can think about at the moment is sludgy palettes and autumn leaves

There are masses of Biba posters all around town for the exhibition. You have to come down and see it with me, or I shall have to come up to London and drag you back down on the train. Seriously.

So I've had a lot of Sarah Moon haziness to look at, and the weather is getting a wee bit greyer and a wee bit chillier, so all I can think about at the moment is sludgy palettes and autumn leaves. (Mum and I went in to Big Biba at Derry and Tom's in the 70s. Mum says we didn't but I'd lay good money out that there were absolutely categorically no other shops in London at the time with Art Deco interiors and that much purple and brown going on. We were there. I know this to be true.)

And I wanted to do something with gel liner as a smudgy base, and I'd just recently picked up this rather gorgeous little MUA one that's a lovely dark chocolatey brown with some copper sparkles in it... so I started thinking of browns and coppers and khakis and berries... and here we are. You could probably fuzz it out even more and add some spiky false lashes if you really wanted to rock that King's Road in the Seventies vibe. I think that everyone should rock that vibe at least once a year - now is the time! I have decreed it!

A Pop of Orange!

I'm calling it Spring at last - it might be a little tentative but the days are definitely getting sunnier and warmer, so it's time to inject some colour into our makeup.

Intense and bright colours can seem a little daunting, but as long as you pair them with neutrals to begin with, they work really well at giving you that fresh pop of colour. If you think along the lines of interior design schemes with accents of colour in the form of accessories, that's the general principle. Take a neutral base palette and inject that colour alongside it!

The Biba Look

Hi Tory,

Here we go with the Biba tutorial - lots of hazy greens to mimic that 70s meets 30s Hollywood glamour style by way of Kensington High Street.

It's all about keeping the colour above the crease and up to the brow, LOTS of lashes and a dark, plummy mouth.

Think Pink!

Hi Tory,

The drawback with pink eyeshadow is that it can make you look like you've been punched, have an infection, or are suffering from a human form of Myxomatosis... which is not a good look. I've vamped it up a bit here by blending it with a base of chocolate brown to give a lovely plummy/burgundy colour, and then lined the eyes with a warm brown to offset the pink even further.

Colours and Brands!

Hi Tory!

After a good rummage through my makeup, quite a lot of it isn't massively expensive (although the massively expensive ones *are* lovely), so here's a few picks of cheaper brands that are still nice to work with and experiment with:

• The Beauty UK palettes are £3.99 for ten lovely shades per palette (I wouldn't bother with the little foam brush it comes with tho... it's not that great. These are from Superdrug.

• The Makeup Academy range - again from Superdrug - are just ridiculously brilliant and £1 each, and they also do a slightly more expensive range from £2.00.
• The Sleek palettes are pretty fab too. They're a bit more expensive (£6.49), but I've seen loads of tutorials that feature the colours and they are gorgeous.

I also mention the Urban Decay Primer Potion which you used to be able to get in Boots, but is available now at Debenhams, although try not to drool on the counter too much when you see all the palettes and colours. ; You can get the Primer Potion in different colours, but mine is the generic one. :)
